[K-Drama Review] Two Weeks (2013)

Finally be able to finish watching this series after postpone it over and over again. Even though at first I hesitate to watch it and afraid abandon it in the middle, turns out the story change into an interesting one and I ended it in such speed mode.

14 days of life changing.
Two weeks tells a story of a man name Jang Tae San (Lee Jun Ki) who accuse of a murder only have two weeks to prove that he's not the murderer and be able to have an operation for saving his daughter's life.

one of the romantic scene, i guess.

The story is as simple as that. It also only has 16 episodes. Let me warn you first, if you’re fans of a romantic story you better not watch it from the first place because this series is a hardcore action genre though it also has a few romantic scenes.
bloods an guns are the common view in this series.
Move on to the review, I’m not into action movies or series but strangely I find two weeks really interesting. On each ending episodes there will be something that make me curious and increase my eager to watch the next episode. Even though on the beginning I slightly feels bored but from middle to ending this series is getting more worthy of note. Some scenes a bit out of logic I think, but if we're talking about Korean series or any series is not a big deal though.

his expression is picture-perfect.
Four thumbs up to Lee Jun Ki oppa for playing his role perfectly. You will find that he can be sweet and dangerous at the same time. Everything portray by his tiny eyes gaze.
i'm sorry prosecutor Park, you should try harder :(
I don't like the role of the prosecutor Park Jae Kyung (Kim So Yeon). I think she played it awkwardly on some parts. It's either lack of expression or too much.

But after all it is really a good series if you like action genres and Lee Jun Ki.

If I have to put points for this one I will put 8,5 out of 10.

A Werewolf Boy (2012)

Been saving this movie in my laptop since ages but just have time to watch it few days ago and instantly loved it.
when waiting is not the hardest thing to do.
A werewolf boy tells a story about a widower and her two daughters who move into a suburb after her husband passed away and met the unique boy in their new home. The mother decided to name him Cheol Su (Song Joong Ki). Not be able to say a word and have a big appetite when it comes to food, the older daughter Kim Sun Yi (Park Bo Young) really hate Cheol Su's presence in their home. But after a while she decided to give Cheol Su a chance. Because Cheol Su acts like a wolf (always growling and howling), Sun Yi learn how to treat him from a book how to train a dog. Strangely it works. With Sun Yi ways, Cheol Su change into more of a normal person does. He eats slowly and with chopstick, he dressed and sleep like a human being.
Song Joong Ki as Cheol Su
Park Bo Young as Kim Sun Yi
Sun Yi then spends his time with Cheol Su when her mother working and her little sister goes to school. He introduces Cheol Su to music and taught him how to write and speak. Sun Yi and Cheol Su's happy days suddenly turn into a mess when the son of Sun Yi's father – Park Ji Tae (Yoo Yeon Suk) – came and tries to insult Sun Yi in the middle of the night, which brought the real identity of Cheol Su exposed.

love love love this scene.
do you see love in his eyes? i see ;)
Honestly I decided to watch this movie from the first place is because Song Joong Ki is starring in it but now I think I would watch it even though it is not Song Joong Ki's movie, because the story line itself is entitling and fresh. Well not so fresh maybe because we've been introduce to werewolf stories with Twilight and few Hollywood movies. The different thing is when Twilight gave us a modern vibe; A Werewolf Boy taught us that werewolf already exists since old days. However what makes me a little disappointed by the story is the fact that they don’t really explain where the werewolf came from and why in the world did he exist.

one of the scene that make me crying out loud.
But beside those scientific questions, I find the story really dazzling. You know when someone's strange act is not the reason why you refuse to be with them. How you give a chance to someone you never thought will be one of the important person in your life is also a good message from this movie. For a reply by that chance is loyalty and eternal love that won’t fade through time. There are few scenes near the ending that succeed in making me cries like a baby. I really want to tell that scene here but it will be a spoiler and I hate spoiler so you just have to watch it then you'll know what I mean.

you're the best Joong Ki oppa!
Anyway, about the actor and actresses, I must salute Song Joong Ki, not because I’ve already like him but he really shows what a good act means. From this movie I realize that Song Joong Ki is indeed a versatile actor who can play many different characters but still giving a good and memorable impression by those characters. I've already watch him in Innocent Man where he plays a complex man that tangled between his grunge and love, I also watched him in Penny Pinchers where he plays a trashy guy who watch porn in the morning and trying to hook up with girl in the night. From those two titles he plays different characters successfully, he really dive into his characters and make viewers believe in him.

The same with what he gave us in this movie. Even though I am sad when he decided to leave Running Man because he wants to focus on his career as an actor, I must say it was his best decision because the actor qualities is flowing in his blood although he also have a variety show DNA.
G
et back to the business, I really love how Joong Ki interpret his character in this movie. His gaze and gesture is perfect! Not to mention about how he gave his all - without afraid - to look ugly. I hope after finishing his army service I will be showered with a lot of his movies (aamiin!).

when Chilbong turns bad :p
Comparing to Joong Ki, Park Bo Young acts is also not so bad. But what catch my eyes (beside Joong Ki) is the one and only Yoo Yeon Seok. He plays the villain in this movie. After watching him portrays a sweet Seoul boy by the name of Chilbong in Reply 1994, I must say he did an excellent job in playing the bad suburb guy. His accent and his annoying attitude is success making me (who already love him because of Chilbongi) hate him.

one of the scenes that depict the beautiful story
So to sum it up this movie is really interesting and not making me bored at all, the story is daring, a lot of good acts portray by the actors and actresses and the soundtrack is sweet and fits the movie completely.

If I have to give points I will put 9 out of 10.

[K-Drama Review] Twenty Years Old (2014)

Heyho!! Just finished watching another Kdrama miniseries, this one I’m not sure if I should called it Kdrama or not, I’d rather called it FTV or Special Drama because the story is so simple and short, but upon the confusion of what-should-i-call-this, I really love “Twenty Years Old”, I can’t get enough sweetness of  this miniseries’ storyline.

when idol met their first love.

Twenty Years Old tells a story about how an ordinary girl named Kim Hye Rim (Lee Da In) spends her twenties. Apparently her first 20 years old romance story with her Sunbae (senior) in campus turns into a nightmare. Depressed and desperate about her 20 Years Old romance, her roommate, Ga Young, asks Hye Rim to accompany her watching her roommate favorite boy band, B2ST.
Gikwang, an idol and member of B2ST
Lee Ki, cute 20 years old boy who fell in love all over again w/ his 1st love

Watching B2ST concert making Kim Hye Rim recall her past memmories , when she’s still a middle school student and spends her life with her former boyfriend, Lee Gikwang, which now already becomes famous idol as B2ST member.
slipper accident, one of sweet scenes in this miniseries.

when idol follows his first love, sweet!!
Coincidentally, fate brings her slipper to Gikwang hands. Since then, two of them reconnect and start having a fresh new romance relationship.

when idol date ordinary girl ;)
Unlike their past relationship, knowing that she’s dating an idol, Hye Rim can’t date like normal people do. She have to watch movie one seats away from Gikwang and finish the movie by herself (because Gikwang will be going first before the lights on), considers lying by her friend who told that she already has a boyfriend but cannot gave him her boyfriend picture and hides her relationship from her best friend & roommate because afraid her roommate will flipped out (since her roommate bias is Gikwang).

It was going smooth and Hye Rim has to accept the fact that this is all she can get, until Gikwang’s scandal blew up in the media and they has to experience same events like their past.

This miniseries is really suitable to watch when you get tired of heavy movies or series. Because it really light and pleasing.  It came to my mind that maybe this is the real story of how idol’s feel about his/her first love.

can't get enough of this sweet couple XD

How they spend their days as a couple is really sweet and endearing. Even though Gikwang is an idol, he really shows that he’s just an ordinary guy who fell in love all over again with his first love when he’s with Kim Hye Rim. Their gestures and conversation to each other is really shows how Korean young’s couple acts to each other, which are really sweet and feels like this world belongs to both of them. The chemistry between Gikwang and Lee Da In also make them looks like a real couple.

the next big thing in drama? let's hope!
Another point I love from this movie is the point of view which belongs to Kim Hye Rim. I really like how Kim Hye Rim looks Gikwang as Lee Ki (his former boyfriend and best buddy) while on some other time she also finds her as Gikwang, the idol who is a member of B2ST. Lee Da In who plays the character of Kim Hye Rim is shows good acts, considering it’s her first appearance as an actress, i think this beautiful young lady can follow her mother (Kyeon Miri) and her sister (Lee Yoo Bi) success.
the next actor-dol? let's hope!

On the other hand, being the first lead in this miniseries really brings Gikwang acting’s talent an improvement. Even though on some acts he’s still a bit clumsy, but if he frequently sharpens his acting skills, I think he can be another successful actor-dol (Actor-Idol).

So, to sum it up, i think this miniseries is really delightful, light, and if you love Gikwang or B2ST, you definitely have to watch “Twenty Years Old”. It feels like watching fairytale in idol’s world.

If I have to put points for this one I will put 9 out of 10.

“Dating an idol, like any other, is also cringe-worthy sweet. If there is any difference, the kind of dating that requires absolute secrecy.” – Kim Hye Rim (Twenty Years Old)

ps. this miniseries is another reason why dating Korean guy is really tempting. The way they treats their girl is as sweet as honey XD

The Five-Year Engagement (2012)

Hola! Since i haven’t finished watching any kdrama series, so Iwill reviewed  Hollywood movies i recently watched. It’s The Five Year Engagement. I’m really disappointed with this movie. I thought it will be one of the sweetest chick flick movie like 27 Dresses or Bridesmaids, turns out it is not.

the long awaited to be husband and wife.

The Five Year Engagement tells a story of Tom Solomon (Jason Segel) and Violet Barnes (Emily Blunt) who lived in San Fransisco. After one year dating, Tom decided that Violet is the one for him and ask her to be his wife exactly on their 1 year anniversary. Violet accept the proposal and they're agreeing to get married few months later. But unfortunately they have to postpone the wedding since Violet, who is psychology PhD graduate  get accepted into the University of Michigan’s post doctorate in psychology program which lasts two years.

the proposal
Refuse to wolk on a long distance relationship, Tom follows his fiancee to Michigan and quit from his job as a sous-chef in one of the most popular restaurant in San Fransico. Sadly, his decision to move with his fiancee is not the best decision he’s ever made. When Violet is happy with her new job, Tom has to accept the fact that his new job is a sandwich maker in fast food eatery.

the beginning of the trouble
After a while, Tom becomes really weird. He never shaped his beard and put on a weight. The communication between him and Violet become dull. They decided to take a break and postponed the wedding much further which lead to the most difficult time on their life until it come to the decision will the wedding still on or they have to cancel it forever.

I don’t know why but i don’t find this movie interesting at all. I feel so bored watching this one and want to stop it then go to sleep. But i feel bad because i really love Jason Segel and Emily Blunt. It’s a shame Emily Blunt agree to play in this movie because I really love her acting in “The Young Victoria. I think this movie is simply not her class.

I think they have to make the storyline more interesting and catchy. Even though some scenes are quite interesting, but still overall this movie is humdrum.  I don’t know why the director, Nicholas Stoller, who ever gave us such an amazing movie Yes Manwill come up with this kind of movie.

However I still get the bottom line from this movie, which is you have to be able to give up something precious for you in order to get something more priceless and if you really sure enough about what you want to do then do it, do it immediately.

Anyway, if I have to put points i will put 5 out of 10.

[K-Drama Review] Reply 1994 (2013)

Just finish watched another kdrama "Reply 1994" . One word for this drama: DAEBAK!! I don't even know if that word is enough to portray this magnificent drama. My salutes to all of the crew and cast behind this amazing drama. Thank you for giving your audience such a topnotch show.
When you spend your 20s in the most beautiful way.

Reply 1994 tells a story of seven young bloods lived in Sinchon Boarding House. Seven of them came from different background and has its own struggle through their life. But together in that house they're becoming one family. They experienced their first love, first heartbroken, and the meaning of their 20s. Until one of the boys boarders became a husband of the owner’s daughter, which came to the story of how I met your father.

The boarders of Sinchon Boarding House are Sung Na Jung, Sseureki, Haitai, Samcheonpo, Joo Yoon Jin, Binggrae, and Chilbong.

Sung Na Jung

Meet Sung Na Jung (Go Ara). She is the daughter of the owner, Sung Dong Il (Sung Dong Il) and Lee Il Hwa (Lee Il Hwa). She's majoring in computer engineering at Yonsei University. She came with her parents to Seoul from Masan. She's a reckless girl which happens to be a diehard fan of basketball player, Lee Sang Min. She’s a typical girl in her 20: full of spirit, follow her idol everywhere, and neverending reckless acts. But her recklessness suddenly changes into clumsiness when she fell in love for the first time with someone who she never thought of will be her first love.

Sseureki
Meet Sseureki (Jung Woo).  Sseureki or trash is a 3rd year medical student. Like Na Jung, Sseureki also came from Masan. He portrays the exact personality as his name. His life is truly a trash. He can wear same shirt for 5 days without washing himself. Beyond his sloppy habit, he's a prodigy in medical world who has a genius mind and gentle yet sweetest attitude when it comes to his one and only love.

Chilbongi
Meet Chilbong (Yoo Yoon Seok). He is the one and only Seoul original citizens between the gang. He's not the original lodger in Sinchon Boarding House but because of his cousin, Binggrae, he spends a lot of time on that house. In Sinchon Boarding House, he's not only felt the warmness of family atmosphere but also for the first time in his life he finds something worth fighting for beside his passion for baseball, which is his first love.

Haitai
Meet Haitai (Son Ho Joon). He is the typical country boy who tries to be a city dude. Same like Na Jung, he is also majoring in Computer Engineering. Came from Suncheon, he wear any latest fashion, trying to hook up with any Seoul girl and never gave up visiting hip bars in Seoul. But beyond his want-to-be-cool acts, when it comes to his first love, he changes into a silent boy.

Joo Yoon Jin
Meet Joo Yoon Jin (Min Dohee). She is a diehard Seo Taji and The Boys fans. Majoring in Computer Engineering, she never said a word unless it's about her 'oppa'.  But when a boy who she considers as her enemy comfort her mother and shows different side of him, Yoon Jin changes into a beautiful girl who gave all her heart for her man.

Samcheonpo a.k.a Jang Gook Young
Meet Samcheonpo (Kim Sung Kyun). Also majoring in Computer Engineering, he’s the unluckiest guy on earth who tries to copy Leslie Cheung’s hairstyle in movie A Better Tomorrow, but failed to portray the image perfectly because of his poor appearance. Despite his old looks, he’s actually the youngest of the group (impossible? I know. That’s another reason why this drama is hilarious and laughable). Came to Seoul from his hometown, Samcheonpo, Jang Gook Young (his other nickname) already face his tragic fate when he tries to found Sinchon Boarding House by himself. However his hapless life suddenly turns into an envious life when he found his first and last love.

Binggrae
Meet Binggrae (Baro B1A4). He’s a first year medical student who has a big passion for music. He’s the second most quite person in the group after Yoon Jin. Came to Seoul from Goesan, Binggrae make choice to take a leave on his medical school and find his truly passion for music. Struggle with his new life, he finds comfort when for the first time he confirm his feeling for the opposite sex.

Reply 1994 Relationship Chart
Reply 1994 take a flashback from 2013 to 1994 to find who is between the boarders that'll marrying Sung Na Jung and became the husband.

What I love from Reply 1994 is it feels like i came back through the time shows in this drama. You know the kind of happiness you’ll get from simplicity in the 90s. When you still not busy with your own gadgets, when you watching television together in living room with your family, when you spend your breakfast lunch and dinner in one table with your family, when you still waiting in lines for using public phone, all kind of that stuff.

the gang in 1994

the gang in 2013
Watching seven of them build their bonds beautifully is another reason why this drama truly amazing. Their relationship  feels a bit like Friends (NBC Series) relationship. It’s funny, since Friends also being mentioned in this drama. Another reason why this drama amusing is when they predict the future of few Korean Superstar who still a nobody in the 90s.

who is the husband between these five?
Anyway the storyline is definitely a topnotch for me, because it is unlike another mainstream K-Drama with predictable story. Salute for the scriptwriter who invite the viewers to feel exciting in finding who will be the lead actress’s husband and reveal one buy one who’s eliminated from the nomination. Some of the scenes are also adorable because you never imagine some sweet scenes will came from someone unexpected.

when reply 1994 meets reply 1997 :))
The fact that Reply 1997 casts also involve in this drama as well as their OST is truly a plus point.

the vitamins
About the casts i can’t find who catch most of my attention, because everyone shows a brilliant acts. Go Ara is success playing the role of Sung Na Jung. She’s certainly not holding back and not afraid to acts crazy, careless as an uncontrolled young girl. On the other hand Sung Dong Il who plays the character of Na Jung’s father is truly hilarious. Together with Samcheonpo, both of them are the reason why I laugh so hard watching this drama.

But then again i must salute all of the casts; it feels like they act naturally.

Oh and another reason why I love this drama is because there is a narration who gave a moral message based on each episode’s theme.

So, if I have to put points I will put 10 out of 10 for this drama. Yes, this is a perfect drama from my perception.

“Present. In English, it has two meanings: a gift and also the current moment. It may be that the most precious gift to us is the present, the time in front of us now. True, we may always be bickering with each other and were happy together. 1994 was like a gift to us. And exactly eight years later, and unbelievable gift came to Korea – of all days, on that day.” – Sung Na Jung (Reply 1994)

Ps. I cried when i watch the last episode of this drama, not only because the last episode is really touching, but also  because I realize I will never see their amazing friendship again in Reply 1994 :”(
